Shabbat Shalom!

There is old, and then there is 969 years old.
Which is to say, there is old, and then there is Methuselah son of Enoch.
His life is the longest recorded in Biblical history, he was a prominent spiritual figure before the Great Flood, and he has joined us from his cushioned platform which is carried by four people much . . . much . . . younger than him. His sword, with God’s name engraved on it, sits beside him.
According to the Talmud, Methuselah was one of the Seven Shepherds, one of the spiritual leaders of their respective eras. The others are Adam, Seth, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and King David. I’m sure they’ll be visiting with him.

I think he’s dozing.
Or maybe he’s meditating.

Some say Adam was his teacher for 243 years.
Kabbalists say he studied music and mysticism with the elites of his era.
When he died peacefully in his sleep on the 11th of Cheshvan the Universe observed seven days of mourning during which God delayed the onset of the Flood. Feeling acute spiritual loss with his death, angels shed tears and eulogized him.

I’ve heard his soul longed so for life that he was reincarnated in the body of Elijah the prophet.
Who’s to say?

See you at Sinai.

… to fulfill the mitzvah of counting the Omer, as it is written in the Torah: And you shall count for yourselves from the day after the Shabbat, from the day on which you bring the sheaf of the wave-offering, you shall count seven full weeks. Until the day after the seventh Shabbat, you shall count fifty days, until you bring a new gift to the Eternal.
